Sharon Winsmith

Sharon Winsmith is the founder and owner of Winsmith Tax. Sharon is a tax attorney with over 10 years of experience in the tax industry. She previously spent several years working in the tax structuring department of a Big Four accounting firm. She has worked with a wide range of clients, from high net worth individuals to Fortune 500 companies, to structure their global operations.

Sharon’s specialties include developing tax strategies for global operations, tax structuring, foreign tax credit planning, tax planning involving intellectual property, assisting with the tax impacts of acquisitions and dispositions of companies and assets, internal restructurings, and assistance with international tax compliance requirements. She has personally assisted clients with developing tax structures for acquisitions totaling over $45 billion throughout her career.

Sharon also has extensive knowledge of the newly enacted provisions under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) signed into law by President Trump on December 22, 2017. She has assisted clients with building models to track the anticipated impact as a result of the TCJA and to develop solutions to help individuals and companies monitor and quantify the impact of the changes in law on a current basis. Sharon has also assisted companies with reassessing their global holding structure and tax strategies in light of the newly enacted provisions under the TCJA.

Her wide range of experience and expertise in various areas of the tax law make her uniquely situated to assist clients with developing an optimal strategy for their operations and investments in a cost-efficient manner. She also has experience dealing with the tax examiners and has been involved in defending IRS audits where potential tax payments of over $100 million were at stake.

Sharon has a B.S. in Finance and Economics from the University of South Carolina and graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law. Sharon also has a Master of Laws (LLM) in taxation from New York University.
